ABSTRACT

Due to their excellent catalytic activities, cerium oxide nanoparticles have promise as biological nanoenzymes. A redox reaction occurs between Ce3+ ions and Ce4+ ions during which they undergo conversion by acquiring or losing electrons as well as forming oxygen vacancies (or defects) in the lattice structure, which can act as antioxidant enzymes and simulate various enzyme activities. A number of cerium oxide nanoparticles have been engineered with multienzyme activities, including catalase, superoxide oxidase, peroxidase, and oxidase mimetic properties. Cerium oxide nanoparticles have nitric oxide radical clearing and radical scavenging properties and have been widely used in a number of fields of biology, including biomedicine, disease diagnosis, and treatment. This review provides a comprehensive introduction to the catalytic mechanisms and multiple enzyme activities of cerium oxide nanoparticles, along with their potential applications in the treatment of diseases of the brain, bones, nerves, and blood vessels.

ABSTRACT

Acute myocardial infarction is a serious cardiovascular disease and poses significant risks to human health. Its early diagnosis and real-time detection are of great importance. Herein, we design a low-cost device that has a high sensitivity of cTnT and cTnI detection. Dual-color upconversion nanoparticles (UCNPs) are prepared as probes, which not only have high-purity red upconversion luminescence (UCL) under 980 or 808 nm excitation but also achieve good temperature sensing. Temperature-dependent multicolor emission excitation is obtained, and the color turns from white to orange and red with increasing temperature. In particular, the maximum SR and SA values based on nonthermally coupled levels are 4.76% K-1 and 8.6% K-1, which are higher than those based on thermally coupled levels. With the UCNPs-based lateral flow strip (LFS), the specific detection of cTnI and cTnT antigens in samples is achieved with a detection limit of 0.001 ng/mL, which is 1 order of magnitude lower than that of their clinical cutoff. The UCNPs-LFS device has a low-cost laser diode and a simplified laser and permits a mobile-phone camera to collect the results, which has an important influence on the field of biomarker sensing.

ABSTRACT

Objective: The population is aging exponentially and the resulting frailty is becoming increasingly evident. We aimed to explore the association between altitude and frailty, and to identify associated factors for frailty. Methods: This is a community-based cross-sectional survey. 1,298 participants aged ≥60 years from three different altitudes were included in the study. To quantify frailty, we constructed a frailty index (FI) and a frailty score (FS). The FI was divided into non-frailty, prefrailty, and frailty. The Odds Ratios and confidence intervals (ORs, 95%CIs) were used to evaluate the association between altitude and FI and FS in multivariate ordinal logistic regression and linear regression. Results: There were 560 (53.1%) participants in the prefrailty and 488 (37.6%) in the frailty group. The FS increased with higher altitude (P for trend <0.001). Multivariate ordinal logistic regression analysis revealed an association between altitude and frailty, OR = 1.91 (95% CI: 1.38-2.64) in mid-high altitude and 2.49 (95% CI:1.40-4.45) in high altitude. The same trend of association was found in the univariate analysis. The FS increased by 1.69 (95% CI: 0.78-2.60) at mid-high altitude and 3.24 (95%CI:1.66-4.81) at high altitude compared to medium altitude. Conclusion: The study indicates that high altitude exposure is an associated factor for frailty in older adults. This association become stronger with higher altitudes. As a result, it is essential to conduct early frailty screening for residents living at high altitudes.

ABSTRACT

Using CBr4 as a mild oxidant, the direct C-H bond oxidation of N-aryltetrahydroisoquinolines was achieved, giving a series of the corresponding iminium salts in high yields under metal- and photo-free reaction conditions. This reaction is superior in high yields and good functional group tolerance, and the late-stage derivatization showed that these iminium salts can readily be applied to the synthesis of the functionalized THIQs.

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND: Studies investigating the effectiveness of acupuncture therapies in alleviating pain in pelvic inflammatory disease (PID) have gained increasing attention. However, to date, there have been no systematic reviews and meta-analyses providing high-quality evidence regarding the efficacy and safety of acupuncture therapies in this context. OBJECTIVE: The objective of this review was to assess the efficacy and safety of acupuncture therapies as complementary or alternative treatments for pain relief in patients with PID. METHOD: A comprehensive search was conducted in eight databases from inception to February 20, 2023: PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, the Cochrane Library, China National Knowledge Infrastructure, Wanfang Database, VIP Database, and Chinese Biomedical Literature Database. Randomized controlled trials (RCTs) investigating acupuncture therapies as complementary or additional treatments to routine care were identified. Primary outcomes were pain intensity scores for abdominal or lumbosacral pain. The Cochrane risk of bias criteria was applied to assess the methodological quality of the included trials. The Grading of Recommendations, Assessment, Development, and Evaluations (GRADE) system was used to evaluate the quality of evidence. Data processing was performed using RevMan 5.4. RESULT: This systematic review included twelve trials comprising a total of 1,165 patients. Among these, nine trials examined acupuncture therapies as adjunctive therapy, while the remaining three did not. Meta-analyses demonstrated that acupuncture therapies, whether used alone or in combination with routine treatment, exhibited greater efficacy in relieving abdominal pain compared to routine treatment alone immediately after the intervention (MD: -1.32; 95% CI: -1.60 to -1.05; P < 0.00001). The advantage of acupuncture therapies alone persisted for up to one month after the treatment (MD: -1.44; 95% CI: -2.15 to -0.72; P < 0.0001). Additionally, acupuncture therapies combined with routine treatment had a more pronounced effect in relieving lumbosacral pain after the intervention (MD: -1.14; 95% CI: -2.12 to -0.17; P < 0.00001) in patients with PID. The incidence of adverse events did not increase with the addition of acupuncture therapies (OR: 0.56; 95% CI: 0.21 to 1.51; P = 0.25). The findings also indicated that acupuncture therapies, as a complementary treatment, could induce anti-inflammatory cytokines, reduce pro-inflammatory cytokines, alleviate anxiety, and improve the quality of life in patients with PID. CONCLUSION: Our findings suggest that acupuncture therapies may effectively reduce pain intensity in the abdomen and lumbosacral region as complementary or alternative treatments, induce anti-inflammatory cytokines, decrease pro-inflammatory cytokines, alleviate anxiety, and enhance the quality of life in patients with PID, without increasing the occurrence of adverse events. However, due to the low quality of the included trials, the conclusion should be interpreted with caution, highlighting the need for further high-quality trials to establish more reliable conclusions.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVES: To observe the therapeutic effect of Tongyuan needling combined with jingyu herb-separated moxibustion on the patients with recurrent implantation failure (RIF) of kidney deficiency and blood stasis undergoing frozen embryo transfer of the conventional hormone replacement therapy cycle. METHODS: Sixty RIF of kidney deficiency and blood stasis patients who planned for frozen embryo transfer were randomly divided into a combined treatment group (30 cases) and a western medication group (30 cases). In the western medication group, the conventional hormone replacement therapy was performed for endometrial preparation during transfer cycle. On the basis of treatment as the western medication group, in the combined treatment group, Tongyuan needling combined with jingyu herb-separated moxibustion was adopted. Regarding tongyuan needling, the acupoint prescription for Tongdu Tiaoshen (promoting the governor vessel and regulating the spirit, e.g. Dazhui [GV 14], Ganshu [BL 18], Shenshu [BL 23] and back-shu points) and that for Yinqi Guiguan (conducting qi back to the primary, e.g. Zhongwan [CV 12], Qihai [CV 6], Guanyuan [CV 4] and front-mu points) were selected. Acupuncture was delivered at these two prescriptions alternatively each time. After acupuncture, the herb-separated moxibustion (in which, the herbal powder was prepared with the modified Yangjing Zhongyu decoction for cultivating the kidney essence and promoting pregnancy) was operated at Shenque (CV 8). This combined therapy was delivered once every two days, 3 sessions a week till the day of embryo transfer. The pregnancy outcomes (positive rate of human chorionic gonadotropin [ß-HCG] and clinical pregnancy rate) were compared between the two groups, as well as the TCM syndrome score, serum estradiol (E2) and progesterone (P) levels, endometrial thickness and type, endometrial blood flow index (pulsatility index [PI], resistance index [RI]) before and after treatment. RESULTS: After treatment, the clinical pregnancy rate of the combined treatment group was 40.0% (12/30), higher than that of the western medication group (16.7%, 5/30, P<0.05); and the difference in the positive rate of ß-HCG was not significant statistically between the two groups (P>0.05). After treatment, the serum levels of E2 and P were elevated (P<0.05), the endometrial thickness was thickened (P<0.05); the scores of TCM syndrome, and the levels of PI and RI were reduced (P<0.05) when compared with those before treatment in the two groups. The proportion of type A endometrium increased compared with that before treatment in the combined treatment group (P<0.05). Except the levels of E2 and P, the above indexes in the combined treatment group were superior to the western medication group (P<0.05). CONCLUSIONS: On the basis of frozen embryo transfer of conventional hormone replacement cycle, the intervention of Tongyuan needling combined with jingyu herb-separated moxibustion can effectively relieve the clinical symptoms, increase the endometrial blood flow and its thickness, and improve the endometrial receptivity, thereby ameliorate pregnancy outcomes in RIF patients of kidney deficiency and blood stasis.

ABSTRACT

Background: Painful Diabetic Peripheral Neuropathy (PDPN) is a common complication of diabetes, it severely affects the quality of life of patients. Acupuncture has been shown to be effective in the treatment of PDPN. To evaluate the efficacy and safety of acupuncture for pain relief in patients diagnosed with diabetic peripheral neuropathy, we conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis. Method: We thoroughly searched specific databases, which included PUBMED, EMBASE, Web of Science, the Cochrane Library, the Chinese Biomedical Literature Database, the Chinese National Knowledge Infrastructure, China Science and Technology Journal Database and the Wanfang Data. All randomized controlled trials of acupuncture therapy for PDPN with pain change scales were included. Included studies were assessed for methodological quality according to the risk of bias from the Cochrane handbook. Meta-analyses were carried out to analyze the outcomes, subgroup analyses, sensitivity analyses, and funnel plot analyses were undertaken. Results: This systematic review evaluated a total of 25 trials of acupuncture therapy in combination with conventional treatment, involving a total of 1,561 patients with PDPN. According to the results, among 16 trials using VAS scores with a total of 1,552 patients, 2 acupoint injection trials (MD -2.38, 95% CI: -2.76 to -2.01, p < 0.00001), 12 acupuncture trials (MD -1. 31, 95% CI: -1.60 to -1.02, p < 0.00001) and 2 moxibustion trials showed that acupuncture therapy combined with conventional treatment improved pain better than conventional treatment (MD -2.50, 95% CI: -2.76 to -2.24, p < 0.00001). In the subgroup analysis of the acupuncture group, the results of the 5 trials in which the location of acupuncture was only in the limbs (MD -1.27, 95% CI: -1.54 to -1.01, p < 0.00001) and the 7 trials both in limbs and torso (MD -1.38, 95% CI: -1.81 to -0.95, p < 0.00001) also demonstrated that acupuncture was effective in pain improvement. Conclusion: This meta-analysis analyzed the possible efficacy of acupuncture in combination with conventional treatment for pain in diabetic peripheral neuropathy, particularly when acupoints are located in the limbs. However, there are limitations to this meta-analysis and future clinical studies are needed to confirm these findings. ABSTRACT

Background: In China, the number of preterm infants is the second largest globally. Compared with those in developed countries, the mortality rate and proportion of treatment abandonment for extremely preterm infants (EPIs) are higher in China. It would be valuable to conduct a multicenter study and develop predictive models for the mortality risk. This study aimed to identify a predictive model among EPIs who received complete care in northern China in recent years. Methods: This study included EPIs admitted to eighteen neonatal intensive care units (NICUs) within 72 hours of birth for receiving complete care in northern China between January 1, 2015, and December 31, 2018. Infants were randomly assigned into a training dataset and validation dataset with a ratio of 7:3. Univariate Cox regression analysis and multiple regression analysis were used to select the predictive factors and to construct the best-fitting model for predicting in-hospital mortality. A nomogram was plotted and the discrimination ability was tested by an area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUROC). The calibration ability was tested by a calibration curve along with the Hosmer-Lemeshow (HL) test. In addition, the clinical effectiveness was examined by decision curve analysis (DCA). Results: A total of 568 EPIs were included and divided into the training dataset and validation dataset. Seven variables [birth weight (BW), being inborn, chest compression in the delivery room (DR), severe respiratory distress syndrome, pulmonary hemorrhage, invasive mechanical ventilation, and shock] were selected to establish a predictive nomogram. The AUROC values for the training and validation datasets were 0.863 [95% confidence interval (CI): 0.813-0.914] and 0.886 (95% CI: 0.827-0.945), respectively. The calibration plots and HL test indicated satisfactory accuracy. The DCA demonstrated that positive net benefits were shown when the threshold was >0.6. Conclusions: A nomogram based on seven risk factors is developed in this study and might help clinicians identify EPIs with risk of poor prognoses early.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVES: To investigate a comprehensive segmentation of chest X-ray (CXR) in promoting deep learning-based World Health Organization's (WHO) radiologically confirmed pneumonia diagnosis in children. METHODS: A total of 4400 participants between January 2016 and June 2021were identified for a cross-sectional study and divided into primary endpoint pneumonia (PEP), other infiltrates, and normal groups according to WHO's diagnostic criteria. The CXR was divided into six segments of left lung, right lung, mediastinum, diaphragm, ext-left lung, and ext-right lung by adopting the RA-UNet. To demonstrate the benefits of lung field segmentation in pneumonia diagnosis, the segmented images and images that were not segmented, which constituted seven segmentation combinations, were fed into the CBAM-ResNet under a three-category classification comparison. The interpretability of the CBAM-ResNet for pneumonia diagnosis was also performed by adopting a Grad-CAM module. RESULTS: The RA-UNet achieved a high spatial overlap between manual and automatic segmentation (averaged DSC = 0.9639). The CBAM-ResNet when fed with the six segments achieved superior three-category diagnosis performance (accuracy = 0.8243) over other segmentation combinations and deep learning models under comparison, which was increased by around 6% in accuracy, precision, specificity, sensitivity, F1-score, and around 3% in AUC. The Grad-CAM could capture the pneumonia lesions more accurately, generating a more interpretable visualization and enhancing the superiority and reliability of our study in assisting pediatric pneumonia diagnosis. CONCLUSIONS: The comprehensive segmentation of CXR could improve deep learning-based pneumonia diagnosis in childhood with a more reasonable WHO's radiological standardized pneumonia classification instead of conventional dichotomous bacterial pneumonia and viral pneumonia. CLINICAL RELEVANCE STATEMENT: The comprehensive segmentation of chest X-ray improves deep learning-based WHO confirmed pneumonia diagnosis in children, laying a strong foundation for the potential inclusion of computer-aided pediatric CXR readings in precise classification of pneumonia and PCV vaccine trials efficacy in children. KEY POINTS: • The chest X-ray was comprehensively segmented into six anatomical structures of left lung, right lung, mediastinum, diaphragm, ext-left lung, and ext-right lung. • The comprehensive segmentation improved the three-category classification of primary endpoint pneumonia, other infiltrates, and normal with an increase by around 6% in accuracy, precision, specificity, sensitivity, F1-score, and around 3% in AUC. • The comprehensive segmentation gave rise to a more accurate and interpretable visualization results in capturing the pneumonia lesions.

ABSTRACT

Using CBr4 as a halogen bond donor and the source of tribromomethyl group, a halogen bond promoted tribromomethylation of N-aryltetrahydroisoquinolines was achieved. This reaction was also extended to the construction of the dibenzopyrrocoline alkaloid skeleton through a one-pot process. The mechanistic study confirmed the existence of the halogen bond.

ABSTRACT

The fields of biosensitivity and biological imaging have received a lot of attention from rare earth-doped upconversion nanoparticles (UCNPs). However, owing to the relatively large energy difference of rare earth ions, biological sensitivity based on UCNPs is restricted to detect at low temperature. Here, we design core-shell-shell NaErF4:Yb@Nd2O3@SiO2 UCNPs as a dual-mode bioprobe that produces blue, green, and red multi-color upconversion emissions at extremely low temperatures between 100 K and 280 K. Based on the thermally coupled energy levels (TCELs) of Er3+ (2H11/2 and 4S3/2) and Nd3+ (4F5/2 and 4F3/2) at 100 K, the greatest relative sensitivity (SR) approaches 12.7% K-1. NaErF4:Yb@Nd2O3@SiO2 injection is used to achieve blue upconversion emission imaging of frozen heart tissue, showing that this UCNP can serve as a low-temperature sensitive biological fluorescence.

ABSTRACT

Developing high-resolution, high-accuracy fluorescent thermometers is challenging. In this study, the optical properties and thermal sensing of Yb-, Tm-, and Eu-co-doped C12A7 (C12A7:Yb/Eu/Tm), with flower-like structure upconversion microparticles, were studied. Eu3+ doping induced an approximately 6-fold change in the upconversion luminescence (UCL) output in comparison with C12A7:Yb/Tm microparticles. The maximum relative temperature sensitivity (S) of C12A7:Yb/Eu/Tm reached 3.0% K-1, representing an approximately 5-fold difference compared with the value of C12A7:Yb/Tm. In particular, the multicolor upconversion emission of C12A7:Yb/Eu/Tm can easily change from blue to white UCL with increasing temperature. Moreover, the band structure, total density, and optical coefficient of C12A7:Yb/Eu/Tm were investigated via density functional theory. The total density of O atoms increased in comparison with the total density of pure C12A7, indicating that substitution of Ca2+ by Yb/Eu/Tm produced positive vacancies on the cage structure. The optical coefficient of C12A7 was improved by the Yb/Eu/Tm dopant. The thermally regulated multicolor characteristics and thermally coupled energy levels of Tm3+ provide "dual adjustment temperature sensing", which is a promising strategy for realizing accurate and effective temperature sensors.

ABSTRACT

Cation exchange (CE) under mild conditions promises a facile strategy to anchor single metal sites on colloidal chalcogenides toward catalytic applications, which however has seldom been demonstrated. The dilemma behind this is the rapid kinetics and high efficiency of the reaction disfavoring atomic dispersion of the metal species. Here we report that a fine-tuning of the affinity between the incoming metal cations and the deliberately introduced ligands can be exploited to manipulate the kinetics of the CE reaction, in a quantitative and systematic manner defined by the Tolman electronic parameter of the ligands used. Moreover, the steric effect of metal-ligand complexes offers thermodynamic preference for spatial isolation of the metal atoms. These thereby allow the rational construction of single atom catalysts (SACs) via simple one-step CE reactions, as exemplified by the CE-derived incorporation of single metal atoms (M = Cu, Ag, Au, Pd) on SnS2 two-unit-cell layers through M-S coordination.

ABSTRACT

Using the in situ generated triarylamine radical cation as an initiator, the sp3 C-H bond of proline esters was smoothly oxidized and brominated through C-H activation relay (CHAR), giving a series of 4-bromopyrroles in good yields with high regioselectivity. The mechanistic study revealed that the oxidation of the active C-H bond initiated the followed 1,5-HAT and bromination, which provides a new method to realize the functionalization of the remote C-H bond.

ABSTRACT

A series of furoxan derivatives with N-nitroso groups were synthesized in good yields by TBN initiated radical sp3 C-N bond cleavage of 1-nitromethyl-N-aryltetrahydroisoquinolines. This reaction grafts the biologically important furoxan skeleton and N-nitroso group into on molecule, greatly improving the molecular complexity in one step transformation. The mechanistic study shows that this reaction is mediated by the in situ generated α-carbonyl nitrile oxide, which is afforded by TBN promoted C-N bond cleavage.

ABSTRACT

III-V quantum dots (QDs), in particular InP QDs, have emerged as high-performance and environmentally friendly candidates to replace cadmium based QDs. InP QDs exhibit properties of direct band gap structure, low toxicity, and high mobility, which make them suitable for high-performance optoelectronic applications. However, it is still challenging to precisely regulate the components and crystal structure of InP QDs, especially in the engineered stable aliovalent doping. In this work, we developed our original reverse cation exchange strategy to achieve Cu+ doped InP (InP:Cu) QDs at lower temperature. A ZnSexS1-x shell was then homogeneously grown on the InP:Cu QDs as the passivation shell. The as-prepared InP:Cu@ZnSexS1-x core-shell QDs exhibited better fluorescence properties with a photoluminescence quantum yield (PLQY) of 56.47%. Due to the existence of multiple luminous centers in the QDs, variable temperature-dependent fluorescence characteristics have been studied. The high photoluminescence characteristics in the near-infrared region indicate their potential applications in optoelectronic devices and biological fields.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE: Cognitive impairment is a common outcome of stroke, but there is limited evidence regarding its prevalence at high altitude, especially within the context of specific ethnic groups or lifestyle habits. This prospective exploratory study investigated early cognitive impairment after stroke in Qinghai Province, 3000 m above sea level. METHODS: Patients with acute stroke (n = 1047) were enrolled from 3 hospitals in Qinghai Province. Cognitive performance was measured by Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA) scores within 5 days of stroke symptom onset; MoCA < 26 defined impairment. Patient data included demographics, education, vascular risk factors, diet, and activities of daily living rated by Barthel index. RESULTS: Cognitive impairment within 5 days of stroke symptom onset affected 77.65% of these patients. The factors independently associated with early cognitive impairment were: older age (mean difference [MD]: -4.857, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 6.685-3.030, P < 0.001); female gender (odds ratio [OR]: 1.674, 95% CI: 1.212-2.313, P = 0.002); and a diet containing yak butter (OR: 1.587, 95% CI: 1.247-2.021, P < 0.001). Progressively lesser odds were accounted to beef (Yak) and mutton consumption (OR: 0.804, 95% CI: 0.655-0.987, P = 0.037); fruit (OR: 0.792, 95% CI: 0.672-0.933, P = 0.005); status as an immigrant (OR: 0.666, 95% CI: 0.445-0.996, P = 0.048); education (OR: 0.514, 95% CI: 0.400-0.660, P < 0.001); and multiple daily leisure activities (OR: 0.999, 95% CI: 0.999-0.999, P < 0.001). CONCLUSION: Persons in Qinghai province who experience stroke are likely to show signs of early cognitive dysfunction. Preventive modifiable features include diet and daily activities.

ABSTRACT

Combination of the strong light-absorbing power of plasmonic metals with the superior charge carrier dynamics of halide perovskites is appealing for bio-inspired solar-energy conversion due to the potential to acquire long-lived plasmon-induced hot electrons. However, the direct coupling of these two materials, with Au/CsPbBr3 heteronanocrystals (HNCs) as a prototype, results in severe suppression of plasmon resonances. The present work shows that interfacial engineering is a key knob for overcoming this impediment, based on the creation of a CdS mediate layer between Au and CsPbBr3 forming atomically organized Au-CdS and CdS-CsPbBr3 interfaces by nonepitaxial/epitaxial combined strategy. Transient spectroscopy studies demonstrate that the resulting Au@CdS/CsPbBr3 HNCs generate remarkably long-lived plasmon-induced charge carriers with lifetime up to nanosecond timescale, which is several orders of magnitude longer than those reported for colloidal plasmonic metal-semiconductor systems. Such long-lived carriers extracted from plasmonic antennas enable to drive CO2 photoreduction with efficiency outperforming previously reported CsPbBr3 -based photocatalysts. The findings disclose a new paradigm for achieving much elongated time windows to harness the substantial energy of transient plasmons through realization of synergistic coupling of plasmonic metals and halide perovskites.

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND: Sarcopenia is an age-related decline in skeletal muscle mass, which depends on an assessment of muscle strength and muscle mass. The diagnostic definition of sarcopenia varies by region. AIM: To determine the optimal diagnostic criteria for sarcopenia in a plateau population. Cut off values for the components of diagnostic algorithms for sarcopenia in plateau populations should consider altitude. METHODS: One hundred and fifty subjects aged > 60 years attending a tertiary comprehensive hospital in the city of Xining (elevation: 2260 m) between October and December 2018 were enrolled. Handgrip strength, muscle mass, and physical performance were measured. Sarcopenia was diagnosed according to the Asian Working Group for Sarcopenia (AWGS) 2019 criteria, Beijing criteria, and Lasha criteria. RESULTS: Across diagnostic criteria, there were significant differences in the prevalence of sarcopenia in the overall population and stratified by gender. The prevalence of sarcopenia measured by the AWGS 2019 or Lasha criteria was significantly higher in female compared to male subjects. In males, the prevalence of sarcopenia measured by the Beijing criteria was significantly higher in subjects who identified as Han compared to Minority. In females, there were no significant differences in the prevalence of sarcopenia by ethnicity according to any criteria. CONCLUSION: The Lasha criteria provided a lower prevalence of sarcopenia (males, 8.7%; females, 22.41%; overall, 14%) and were able to differentiate between males and females. The Lasha criteria are likely most appropriate for detection of sarcopenia in this plateau population. We recommend the Lasha criteria for detection of sarcopenia in Xining.

Using tris(4-bromophenyl)aminium hexachloroantimonate as a "waste-utilized"-type initiator, the aerobic oxidation of the sp3 C-H bond of proline esters was realized via C-H activation relay, giving a series of halogenated pyrroles in high yields. The mechanistic study revealed that the counterion, SbCl6-, was involved in the radical chlorination process, which provides a new way to understand the role of the counterions.
